Will treating hyperthyroidism help treat obesity as well?
Asked 3 years ago
Most people will tell you that having an overactive thyroid is usually associated with weight loss. In my circumstance, however, I have an overactive thyroid, but I’m fairly obese. I don’t really understand much of the biology around it, but I thought that maybe because my appetite is so high, it could be contributing to my weight problems. So, I’d love to know if there’s any way that treating my hyperthyroidism will help treat my obesity as well? I'm getting so desperate that I've even considered getting a balloon pill to curb my appetite! Thanks all.

According to a paper, Hyperthyroidism causes weight gain in 10% of people. Even with hyperthyroidism, you can gain weight by taking in excess calories even when burning a lot of energy. Controlling your calories intake will do more for your obesity unlike treating hyperthyroidism that'll have a counter-effect.
