Is gastric surgery the easiest way to lose weight if I’m morbidly obese?
Asked 3 years ago
I was shocked to find out that I’m actually morbidly obese after calculating my BMI. I've tried cutting down on the carbs and fast food, and I even joined a weight loss support group. But to no avail! I’ve seen quite a few reality shows where people have gone for a gastric bypass or a gastric sleeve/gastric band and they’ve lost a ton of weight. Do you think that having this type of surgery is the easiest and fastest way to lose weight? The word “morbid” has me really worried. I’d really love some feedback.

While there is no easy way to lose weight, there are effective ways. Your doctor will help you identify what will work best for your morbid obesity after detailed profiling of your biopsychosocial factors. Often, surgery is considered a last resort when dieting, exercise, and behavioural modification plans fail.
