Is type 1 diabetes associated with hypertension?

Asked 4 years ago

I'm doing research on type 1 diabetes and its effects on the body. My specific focus is how type 1 diabetes can cause or exacerbate other illnesses. My research has shown a significant increase in hypertension diagnoses in patients already diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Is type 1 diabetes associated with hypertension?

Type 1 diabetes is significantly associated with hypertension, and for obvious reasons. Simply put, higher blood sugar levels that occur with type 1 diabetes because of insulin deficiency can cause damage to blood vessels and the kidney. It leads to a rise in blood pressure, causing hypertension.
