Does insulin raise blood pressure by increasing resistance in vessels?
Asked 3 years ago
My wife has started taking insulin for type 2 diabetes, and she’s had a rise in blood pressure afterward. I’m worried that there may be another condition that she has developed that’s causing her blood pressure to rise while on insulin.

For some people, the act of injecting oneself with insulin can be anxiety inducing and increase one's blood pressure in the short-term. There is some evidence to suggest that insulin can cause mild increases in blood pressure in long-term use. If you are concerned that she is developing hypertension (long-term, increased blood pressure), she should seek medical attention. She should not stop her insulin as it must be evaluated and the benefit of insulin therapy likely outweighs the risks associated with it.
