Does caffeine affect the efficacy of beta blockers?
Asked 3 years ago
I take beta blockers to help with my blood pressure and hypertension. Does drinking coffee or caffeinated drinks affect the efficacy of beta blockers?

Coffee or caffeinated drinks counteract the antiadrenergic effect of beta-blockers. Consequently, they increase blood pressure by increasing the action of neurotransmitters and adrenaline on the heart. They also increase the rate of metabolism of beta-blockers, shortening their activity period in the body.
