Does a short-term dose of metformin help to reduce blood pressure?
Asked 3 years ago
My sister has uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, and I’m worried she may also be hypertensive. I advised her to seek treatment before developing diabetic complications, as she complains a lot about being extremely tired. I persuaded her to take metformin for a short period of time in order for her to get better. Will it be effective?

Metformin has minimal to no impact on blood pressure. If you are concerned about her blood pressure, it is advised to check this with your local doctor. The best way to prevent hypertension would be to optimize her diabetic control and implement healthy lifestyle changes including exercise and healthy diet. Being tired could be related to her poor diabetic control, for which metformin may be indicated. It is advised to see her doctor for developing a regime to better control her sugar levels.
