I struggle with chronic high blood pressure. Is it okay for me to drink caffeinated drinks like coffee or energy drinks?

The topic of caffeine and high blood pressure has been a widely contested topic for the past few decades. However, recently the evidence has swayed to suggest that daily caffeine intake is a risk factor for developing hypertension. If you have been diagnosed with resistant hypertension or chronic hypertension, it is suggested that you limit your daily caffeine intake in an effort to manage your blood pressure levels and reduce the risk of developing any complications.
Energy drinks are not advised in trying to manage your chronic high blood pressure. You can consider keeping a look out for a healthy alternative drink, with less caffeine and less sugar. Other guidelines for managing chronic high blood pressure suggest smoking cessation, regular exercise, reduced alcohol consumption, and healthy dietary changes.
Consulting with a dietician could be extremely helpful in understanding how to make healthy dietary choices on a daily basis. You can also try to swap out a cup of coffee in the afternoon or early evening with a cup of caffeine-free tea.
