What are the modifiable risk factors for type I diabetes?
Asked 3 years ago
Type I diabetes runs in my family and I'm quite scared that I might get it. What are the modifiable risk factors for type I diabetes so I can change some of my lifestyle habits (e.g. smoking, drinking, etc.)? Thanks!

Unlike type 2 diabetes, risk factors for type 1 diabetes are not modifiable. They include genetic differences, family history, geography, and age. Physical stress and exposure to viral illnesses may also contribute. The best you can do may be to monitor your sugar level often in hopes of making the diagnosis early.
