What are the major risk factors for type I diabetes?
Asked 3 years ago
My husband has type 1 diabetes and I fear that our little toddler might grow up and develop it too. What are the major risk factors I should look out for as our little one grows up? Thanks in advance!

The major risk factors for type 1 diabetes are;
- Having a family history of Type 1 diabetes.
- Pancreatic pathology (tumour, infection, surgery or accident).
- Presence of autoantibodies.
- Physical stress (such as surgery or illness).
- Exposure to viral diseases.
Age and geography are also risk factors for the development of the condition.
