Are there genetic risk factors for Type I Diabetes?
Asked 3 years ago
My dad has Type 1 Diabetes and so does my grandfather. I am the first grandson and I wonder if I'm going to get this diagnosis too. Are there genetic risk factors for Type 1 Diabetes?

Genetics is a major risk factor for the development of type 1 diabetes. This genetic predisposition comprises both family history and the presence of certain genes. One research estimates that as many as 50 genes increase your risk for the condition. Best to monitor your sugar level consistently to nip the condition in the bud.
