How do I get rid of lactic acid in my legs?
Asked 3 years ago
I have a build-up of lactic acid and wish to reduce it. Yes, I am obese, and I'm working hard to control my diet. I want to start exercising, but I'm worried that the lactic acid leads to hyperlactatemia.

Hyperlactatemia is usually caused by intense exercise and is usually temporary, as the body regulates the amount of lactate in the blood at any given point. Starting with moderate or low-intensity exercise should be your best option to limit the excessive lactate build-up in the muscles. Increasing the intensity of exercise so your body can adjust and cope with the stressors of exercise. The muscle fatigue and burning sensation experienced during exercise is due to the accumulation of intracellular metabolites which in severe cases can limit the contractile function of the muscles.
Ensuring that while you are exercising, you are taking deep, well-controlled breaths to aid you in blowing off the carbon dioxide and lactate build-up in the body, leading to hyperlactatemia. Increased lactate acid levels in the body can also be due to health conditions such as heart failure, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, and infection. Ensuring that all possible health conditions are managed well, will decrease the chances of developing hyperlactatemia while exercising. A warm bath or gentle massage to the sore muscles may improve your symptoms of fatigue and heal the muscles faster.
