Can medication for diabetes help with my obesity?
Asked 3 years ago
I’ve recently been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance – and I’m still in shock! My doctor has put me on Metformin which is a medication that diabetics take to control their blood sugar levels. I’m really hoping that if my blood sugar comes down, then I’ll start losing some weight, as I’m very overweight at the moment. Do you think that this medication will help with my obesity? Thanks a bunch.

Metformin has anti-obesity effects when used by obese PCOS patients because it causes loss of appetite. When used with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), it causes even more weight loss. However, taking metformin isn't a substitute for healthy eating and physical activity. Instead, consider it a good side effect.
