Can an obese person get fit with high blood pressure?
Asked 3 years ago
Is it safe for me to exercise, lose weight, and regain my fitness if I have hypertension? What is the fastest way to lower my blood pressure if it happens while I'm exercising?

Yes, it is safe to exercise with hypertension, provided it is well controlled and not elevated at the time of exercising. Exercise has proven benefits on improving cardiovascular health and can lower blood pressure through regular activity. Low intensity exercise is the safest place to start, like walking for 25/30min per day about 3/4 times a week. Walking should not place high demands on the cardiovascular system and should not aggravate symptoms of high blood pressure.
There is no immediate way to decrease blood pressure in the body. It is advised to halt any form of exercise should symptoms arise, and wait for the symptoms to subside. It is not advised to continue exercising after symptoms have subsided. If the symptoms do not subside relatively quickly and persist, consult with a medical professional regarding this.
