What does diabetes have to do with hypertension?
Asked 3 years ago
My mom has Type 1 diabetes and hypertension. I've done a lot of research about diabetes to try and help her get through it as best she can, but I only recently learned about her hypertension. What does diabetes have to do with hypertension?

Among other complications, Type 1 diabetes causes microvascular complications because of chronic hyperglycemia. In turn, this alters the blood pressure level. Since the correlation is positive, diabetes will worsen hypertension if it remains uncontrolled. Likewise, hypertension will make diabetes worse. The idea is to keep both under control.
