Is it safe to take metformin for salt-induced hypertension?

Asked 3 years ago

I recently started taking metformin for my type 2 diabetes. I am also very sensitive to salt, according to my doctor. I’m worried that taking an oral anti-diabetic drug will affect my salt-sensitive hypertension. Is metformin effective for salt-induced high blood pressure in the long term?

Metformin is not used to treat hypertension. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is safe to use metformin alongside the medication you have been prescribed for hypertension. Good control over your diabetes can help reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular complications, like hypertension.
