If I have diabetes will I also have hypertension?
Asked 3 years ago
I have Type 1 diabetes and have been managing it with medication, changed diet, and a new exercise regime tailored for me. It feels like I will be able to manage my illness in the long term, however, there is one thing I'm worried about: Hypertension. Is it definite that I will have hypertension just because I have diabetes? Is there a way I can prevent getting hypertension?

While diabetes increases your risk of developing hypertension, it does not have a causal relationship - You may never have it. Because diabetes and hypertension have the same risk factors, cutting down on whatever predisposes you to diabetes automatically reduces your risk of developing hypertension.
