How long should heart palpitations last after taking insulin?
Asked 3 years ago
My son says his heart rate increases after taking his insulin. He thinks it might just be his anxiety because he doesn’t like needles, but I’m worried that isn’t the case seeing that they occur long after he takes his injection. I’m not sure if it’s normal to have continuous heart flutters long after taking your shot.

Many people do experience anxiety when taking insulin which causes an increase in their heart rate. It is thought that the increase in heart rate that occurs long after injecting could be due to lowering blood sugar. If you're concerned about the length of the heart palpitations, then know this: If the heart palpitations last more than 30 seconds, then it's cause to worry. Other than that, it's probably the lowering of blood sugar.
