How does oxidative stress in type II diabetes result in hypertension?
Asked 3 years ago
In my teens I lead a very poor lifestyle of smoking, eating unhealthily, and barely exercising. This later led to type II diabetes and oxidative stress. How exactly does this result in hypertension?

Contrary to popular opinion, research has demonstrated that oxidative stress is the consequence rather than the cause of hypertension. That said, untreated type II diabetes causes cause hyperglycemia, which causes hypertension by causing blood vessels to narrow or become damaged. If you can control the glucose level, you can prevent hypertension.
