Does obesity and type II diabetes cause hypertension?

Asked 3 years ago

I have type II diabetes and I've struggled with being obese for most of my adult life. I need to know if these two health complications could cause hypertension?

Both diabetes and being over-weight have been commonly associated with hypertension in research. These conditions are systemic, affecting organs and systems around the body. Not actively and effectively managing these conditions well can lead to a host of complications from arising in the future, including heart attacks and strokes.

A healthy balanced diet, with the exclusion of fast food, sugar and large amounts of carbohydrates can assist you in managing your weight effectively over time. Daily exercise for 30min a day has also been shown to greatly improve overall health and is associated with lowering risks from conditions such as obesity and diabetes. Consulting with a medical professional regarding the management of these conditions will ensure that these conditions are managed within a certain safe range, reducing the risks of complications from arising. A dietician should be able to help guide you in making good food choices, while helping you understand what foods to avoid.
