Does insulin increase blood pressure if you have untreated diabetes?
Asked 3 years ago
My cousin is overweight and hasn’t been taking care of himself. He has poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. Would starting insulin treatment be beneficial for him? I’m worried he might develop a heart condition and he is still young to have these problems.

Insulin may have an impact on one's blood pressure, however, insulin can help improve the control of his sugar levels, especially if he has tried an oral treatment and they have been ineffective. This benefit outweighs the possible risk that insulin may impact his blood pressure. It is important to manage his diabetes optimally in order to prevent possible future complications of diabetes, and therefore insulin may be advised.
