Does insulin cause blood pressure to rise in overweight patients?
Asked 3 years ago
My father is a type 2 diabetes patient and is a bit overweight. His doctor said that he might have to start taking insulin to help manage his symptoms. I'm a bit concerned about him because he is also hypertensive. Will insulin affect his blood pressure and make things worse for him?

Some studies show that insulin may have an impact on blood pressure control, however, having poor control over his sugar is more likely to cause complications than the possible impact of the insulin therapy on his blood pressure. For type 2 diabetes we recommend using oral medications first, but if he requires insulin to better control his sugar levels, it may improve his well-being.
