Does diabetes cause hypertension?

Asked 3 years ago

As soon as I was diagnosed with diabetes, my husband started freaking out and talking to me about hypertension. I never thought the diabetes and hypertension go hand in hand... Does diabetes cause hypertension?

Yes, diabetes causes hypertension. There is a positive correlation between type 1 and type 2 diabetes and hypertension. What's more? If you have diabetes, you are twice as likely to have high blood pressure. However, it is not automatic, and you can work to reduce the risk significantly.
