I'm very worried about my health, specifically my resistant hypertension. Can you get a stroke if you have resistant hypertension?

It is possible to have a stroke from uncontrolled hypertension and resistant hypertension. If drastically uncontrolled, it can lead to a range of health conditions in the body. Renal failure, heart failure, and heart attacks can also occur. Resistant hypertension is diagnosed when a combination of 3 anti-hypertensive medications, including a diuretic.

You can work with your physician to find the best regime of medications to effectively and safely manage your condition. If you have true resistant hypertension, there are medications out there to treat this condition. It is important that you monitor your blood pressure regularly and consult with your doctor if it is not within a safe range. Around 140/90 mm Hg is a safe range to be in, if you have resistant hypertension.

Low intensity exercise and a healthy balanced diet can help you in managing your hypertension. Note that it is important to not exercise should your blood pressure be elevated or you are not feeling well. Gentle walking for a period of time, without symptoms, is a great form of exercise.
