Can insulin raise the heart rate in overweight diabetes patients?
Asked 3 years ago
I am overweight and have type 2 diabetes, and I’m worried that I am injecting too much insulin. I experience heart palpitations, and continuous heart flutters quite often after the injection. Is it possible that I am experiencing this because I’m an overweight patient?

Insulin users often describe an increase in heart rate and some patients report feeling palpitations (flutters) after injecting. Although the exact reason for this is not yet established, one theory is that the rate increases when the blood sugar drops in response to the insulin itself. It is unlikely to be associated specifically with your weight. However, it is advised that weight loss can assist in managing your diabetes. If symptoms persist or cause further worry, don't hesitate to consult your doctor. Dario has a range of products to help you monitor your blood glucose levels throughout the day.
