What type of diabetes causes high blood pressure?
Asked 3 years ago
My brother was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. I'm quite worried because he is so young and I know that diabetes often causes high blood pressure. Do both type 1 and type 2 diabetes cause high blood pressure, or only one of those two? If so, which one?

Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can cause hypertension. However, it is not automatic. You can work with your brother to reduce his risk of ever developing hypertension. You can encourage him to maintain a healthy weight, exercise regularly and modify his lifestyle, thereby reducing the risk of hypertension.
