During pregnancy, some people may develop high blood sugar levels. Gestational diabetes usually develops in the 24th and 28th weeks of pregnancy. If you develop gestational diabetes, it does not mean that you will have diabetes permanently. It may, however, increase the risk of you developing type II diabetes in the future. If gestational diabetes if uncontrolled it could lead to complications for you and your baby during the pregnancy. Symptoms include increased thirst, fatigue, blurred vision, and usually an increased need to urinate. Ranges of 10 millimol per liter (mmol/L) after 1 hour controlled testing can indicate a potential risk for gestational diabetes.
