Is metformin safe to take with drugs that treat heart conditions?
Asked 3 years ago
I have non-insulin-dependent diabetes and I was told that I may be at risk of developing atrial fibrillation. I’m thinking of taking metformin to help improve insulin resistance and blood sugar levels, but I’m worried it may interact with the other drugs. Does metformin interact with abnormal heart rhythm medication?

Both pre-clinical and clinical studies have shown that metformin reduces the risk of a cardiovascular accident due to a protective effect on the coronary artery. Nevertheless, it is expedient you ask your health care provider before concluding on metformin as your drug of choice to improve insulin resistance.
