Does combining AGIs with insulin increase the risk of heart issues?

Asked 3 years ago

My son was prescribed alpha-glucosidase inhibitors (AGIs) by our doctor after he had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He is slightly overweight, and I am concerned that he will develop complications in the future. Would taking AGIs with injectable insulin put him at risk of developing a heart condition later on?

Insulin therapy increases the risk of a cardiovascular condition, while studies suggest that AGI reduces the risk of developing CVD. You may need to balance the adverse effects of injectable insulins against the benefit of AGI, and a doctor may be in the best position to help you do that.
