Do low calcium diets cause hypertension for type 2 diabetes patients?

Asked 3 years ago

I’m looking after my sister, and I want to help her manage her type 2 diabetes. She’s very stubborn and prefers to do things herself. So I am doing research on the types of exercise and diet changes we can incorporate. Will a low calcium diet increase her blood pressure?

There is evidence that a low calcium diet can increase blood pressure. Contrarily, a calcium-rich diet can also lower blood pressure. Thus, ensure calcium content is high if you aim to control hypertension. Moreso, calcium has potential benefits in treating diabetes, so increasing the intake is beneficial to your sister.
