Can you drink caffeinated drinks before a blood sugar test?
Asked 3 years ago
I need to go for a blood sugar test this weekend as part of my regular type 2 diabetes checkup. Am I allowed to drink caffeinated drinks before the test?

Caffeinated drinks will cause a spike in your blood pressure within 30 minutes of consuming them. They will also remain in your bloodstream for up to 10 hours after consumption. If you take a caffeinated drink before your blood pressure reading, you may get a false sense of a spike when there may be none.
